2 men arrested after 4-year-old boy shot to death

Two men have been arrested for the death of a four-year-old boy who was shot in Highland last week while playing in his grandmother’s front yard.

Investigators arrested 20-year-old Darron Daniels and 25-year-old Maurice Kelley each for one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder following the investigation.

The shooting happened on Wednesday, July 29 in the 7400 block of McKinley Street. Authorities were called to the scene around 8:30 p.m. and found the victim, Daniel Munoz, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The boy was rushed to the hospital but later died, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

“We believe they were shooting at a white vehicle that was in the area at the time and unfortunately Daniel was an innocent victim of that shooting,” Deputy Sheriff Adam Cervantes said.

Homicide investigators initially identified a person of interest and they began interviewing witnesses and serving search warrants, which led them to the suspects, Daniels and Kelley.

Deputies said both men were booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino where they’re being held on $1M bail.
