Woman arrested after crashing stolen SUV

A Thousand Palms woman is facing several felony charges after she evaded the Palm Springs Police Department in a stolen SUV Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, an officer saw a stolen 2005 Lincoln Aviator near North Palm Canyon Drive and Vista Chino just after 1 p.m. When police tried to stop the driver in a parking lot in the 1800 block of North Palm Canyon Drive, the SUV continued east onto North Indian Canyon Drive where it collided with a vehicle after failing to yield.

Officers said the suspect, 39-year-old Marisol Delafuente, tried to drive away from the crash but only made it about 200 yards before deciding to run from the stolen vehicle. An officer with PSPD gave chase and was able to arrest her shortly after.

The driver of the vehicle Delafuente collided with was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

Delafuente was booked into the Riverside County Jail on multiple felony charges, including vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing from the scene of an injury accident and she was also wanted on several felony bench warrants.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will post updates as her case moves forward in court.
