A 33-year-old Indio man is behind bars on suspicion of shooting a man to death in Coachella in February.

Cesar Vega Duran is expected to be arraigned Thursday afternoon on charges of murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and two weapons-related sentence-enhancing allegations.

Duran was arrested Monday near Highway 111 and Salton Street in Indio in connection with the slaying of Angel Antonio Monroy, who was shot Feb. 21st at about 10:30 p.m. in the 85000 block of Napoli Lane, sheriff’s Sgt. Jim Erickson said.

Monroy was taken to a local hospital, where he died from gunshot wounds, the sergeant said. Authorities did not reveal how they tracked down Duran or the motive for the shooting.
