Woman arrested after Border Patrol finds 35 lbs. of meth
A woman was arrested by Border Patrol agents at the Highway 86 checkpoint after authorities found 28 bundles of methamphetamine in her car Sunday afternoon.
The woman was driving a Ford Focus as she approached the checkpoint around 1:30 p.m. A border canine alerted agents to her car and they found 28 vacuum-sealed packages of meth hidden in the car’s rocker panels, according to a release.
Agents said the narcotics weighed 35 lbs. and are estimated to be worth $315K.
The suspected drug smuggler is a U.S. citizen. She was handed over to the DEA for further investigation.
In the fiscal year of 2014, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents said they seized more than 445 lbs. of methamphetamine.
