Driver suspected of DUI in Palm Desert I-10 crash
UPDATE: 11:05 p.m. The CHP said 40-year-old Salvador Estrada of Cathedral City was under the influence of alcohol when he clipped an SUV and caused it to roll.
It happened around 5 p.m. just east of Monterey Ave. Moments after Estrada’s Honda Civic got wedged underneath a semi hauling compressed gas. Estrada is in critical condition and police said he will be charged with DUI.
The 68-year-old driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and the truck driver was uninjured. All lanes of eastbound of I-10 are back open after the crash caused traffic to back up for miles.
UPDATE: 9 p.m. The California Highway Patrol said all eastbound lanes of I-10 reopened in Palm Desert just before 9 p.m. Sunday after a car got stuck under a semi and another vehicle rolled.
Original story: California Highway Patrol and CAL Fire are on scene of a crash on the eastbound side of I-10 between Monterey Ave and Cook Street in Palm Desert.
The CHP said a semi and at least two other vehicles were involved.
It happened around 5 p.m. Sunday. The CHP reports one car rolled over and another car is stuck under a semi tanker truck.
Two people were hurt, one with major injuries.
The number 2 and 3 lanes are still closed, backing up traffic for miles.
CAL FIRE is reporting a possible fuel leak from the Semi. It’s hauling compressed gas. Our crew at the scene says it will be a delicate operation to remove the tanker truck from the freeway.
