Local man who was original Tuskegee Airman passes away

The Palm Springs Air Museum confirms Rancho Mirage Resident Mitchell Higgenbotham, one of the original Tuskegee Airmen died over the weekend.

The airman was part of the first all black fighter squadron that carried out thousands of missions in Europe protecting heavy bombers during World War II.

The unit is credited with helping to end segregation in the military.

Mitchell Higginbotham was 94-years old.
