Modernism Week visitors surge in Palm Springs

The 11-day Modernism Week design festival continues in the Palm Springs area Friday with a full day of events and tours. The 11th annual Modernism Week started Feb. 11 and runs through Sunday.

A celebration of the popular architectural design aesthetic from the 1950s and ’60s, the festival features tours, parties lectures, showcases and a set of nighttime events dubbed “Modernism Week After Dark.”

Last year, attendance soared for Modernism Week. The event drew 59,500 visitors — 30 percent more than 2014 — and pumped an estimated $22 million into the local economy, organizers said.

The event also generated an unprecedented amount of media attention, recording more than 2 billion impressions worldwide, including coverage in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler and Architectural Digest, organizers said.

The event’s headquarters, known as The Community and Meeting Place (CAMP), is located at 555 N. Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.
