Car transport truck catches fire in Mecca

County fire crews responded to a fire in Mecca Sunday afternoon. A car-transport tractor caught fire, destroying three of nine cars being hauled on the tractor.

The Riverside County Fire Department is now investigating the cause.

The transport was eastbound on the 10 Freeway, just west of the Cactus Center Rest Area when it caught fire at 5:19 Sunday afternoon, according to a county fire spokesperson.

Four engines and 14 firefighters responded to the scene.

The county spokesperson said quick work by the firefighters “saved six vehicles”.
