Fire destroys unoccupied house in La Quinta

Fire destroyed an unoccupied house and scorched less than one
acre of vegetation early this morning in La Quinta, a Riverside
County Fire Department spokeswoman said.

The fire in the 61400 block of Jackson Street was reported at
11:26 p.m. Sunday, said Riverside County Fire Department
spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.

The first arriving engine company reported the one-story
single-family home was well-involved, and flames had already
spread into vegetation, she said.

A team of 25 firefighters with six engines and one water
tender had the flames out in 51 minutes, Hendrickson said.
The cause of the is under investigation.
