Valley rain showers close roads in East Valley

A slow moving thunderstorm dumped heavy rain in parts of the Coachella Valley Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning until 1:45pm.

A storm cell centered over the Little San Bernardino Mountains East of Coachella prompted the warning.

Flash flooding and mud flows are possible on Dillon Road in the east valley, according to the weather service. Flooding is also possible on Interstate 10 east of Indio. Debris flows, including mud and rock slides, are expected with this storm.

There have been several roadways closed East of the Coachella Valley including Box Canyon Road which runs from Mecca to Interstate 10, a mud flow trapped one driver and forced CHP to shut down the roadway there.

Other roadways closed are on Highway 177 and Highway 62 in the High Desert area.

If you come across any water in the roadway, officials recommend that you go around and not drive through.
