Case Closed: Police say teen made up story about abduction and assault

Officers with the Palm Springs Police Department said a girl who claimed she was kidnapped and raped in October fabricated her story.

After months of thoroughly investigating the case, police concluded that the 15-year old girl lied about the events. She was reported missing by her family on October 1 and a citizen found her on October 2 in a vacant lot, miles from her home.

“From the onset, officers conducted a thorough and meticulous investigation” said Palm Springs Police Chief Alberto Franz. “The juvenile’s family is cooperative and supports the resolution of this case.” The juvenile’s parents are asking for privacy as they focus on their family.

The investigation into the case has been closed and officers aren’t searching for an offender.

Because of the nature of this incident involving a juvenile, the Palm Springs Police Department will not be commenting on, or releasing additional information about the incident.
