Indio Police officer fires gun accidentally

Indio Police confirm that an officer accidentally discharged his weapon while on a suspicious vehicle call Monday morning.

According to Dan Marshall, spokesperson with the Indio Police Department, the officer saw what he believed to be suspicious activity in a car parked on the 49-400 block of Violet Street.

The person in the car exited quickly, and the officer pulled his gun, and shot it into the ground.

Marshall says nobody was hit , and nothing else was struck by the bullet. The guy was not arrested, it turned out he was sleeping in the car.

Indio Police are conducting an internal investigation.
