Dia de los Muertos events across Coachella Valley this month

Festivities for Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, are taking over the Coachella Valley all month.

CV Days of Los Muertos is a new partnership between Run With Los Muertos, the Palm Springs Art Museum, Sunnylands Center & Gardens, the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert and Raices Cultura, and it’s making it easy for people across the desert to participate and honor loved ones who’ve passed.

They’ll host arts & crafts, workshops and more for adults and children all this month leading up to the Mexican holiday, which is typically recognized Oct. 31 through Nov. 2.

“We use it as a celebration, what is it we remember, what is it we love about those people and celebrate the life they had,” said Kyle Pong of the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert.

The Run With Los Muertos 5K Night run/walk is October 30 in downtown Coachella. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. and the race begins at 7 p.m. You can enjoy art installations, food, a beer garden, a kid zone and live entertainment. For more information and to register go to runwithlosmuertos.com

“It’s a unique event. It’s health, art and culture all mixed in one,” said Tizoc De Aztlan, race organizer.

The collaboration of events is to get people of all cultures to come together.

“It’s a project to bring the celebration of Day of the Dead to all parts of the desert, so no matter where you are you have access to explore the holiday,” said Michaeleen Gallagher from Sunnylands Center & Gardens.

Forest Lawn in Coachella and Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City will also host its annual celebration on Nov. 1.
