Indio police and fire departments host “Public Safety Community Appreciation Day Picnic”

City of Indio police and fire services hosted a “Public Safety Community Appreciation Day Picnic” at Miles Park on Saturday.

The picnic was free and open for everyone — giving the public the opportunity to meet and greet their local law enforcement. Police and fire personnel had their safety equipment on display and families were able to speak with officers firsthand, asking any questions they might have.

“We had a barbecue we gave out hotdogs the children came by…they were able to get into the vehicles, get to see our police canines and the variety of services we have for the community,” said Benjamin Guitron, Public Information Officer, Indio police.

“When we get to meet the public and talk with them, we really get an idea of what’s going on out on the streets outside of the 911,” said Mark Oakley, Battalion Chief, Riverside County Fire.

Police and fire personnel say they wanted to show their appreciation to the community for their support.
