New billboard campaign by the Palm Springs Section 14 Survivors

The Palm Springs Section 14 Survivors have launched a billboard campaign as a part of their "Know Before You Go" initiative.

The group says the initiative, which was made public by the activism group back in October, targets tourists who may not be aware of history of the Section 14 neighborhood.

“We were relocated to create the tourism oasis we know in Palm Springs today...The campaign was launched with the tourism season in mind, we basically want to bring awareness to the cultural and diversity of Palm Springs and let everyone know that there still are communities of color that live here in Palm Springs," Deiter Crawford, Section

According to the Palm Springs Section 14 Survivors, the goal of this campaign is also to reignite reparation negotiations with the City of Palm Springs.

Although the city issued an apology resolution in 2021, it holds firm that the survivors were not forcibly removed from Agua Caliente Tribal Land despite the group's claims.

The billboards will stay up until the end of 2023.
