Hoarding situation at home leads to removal of over 40 cats

WATERFORD, Connecticut (WFSB) — Dozens of cats were taken from a Waterford home this past Thursday.
The cats had to be removed from the residence due to the hoarding situation inside.
Officials had originally captured/trapped thirty-six cats from the elderly couple’s care, with an additional seven that were already voluntarily surrendered the week prior.
It took volunteers from the Paws Cat Shelter CT approximately fourteen hours to gather up all of the cats that were in the elderly couple’s care.
The cats were being fed very well, but were still in need of medical attention.
Volunteers with Paws Cat Shelter CT will now work on giving these cats the medical care they need, such as spaying, neutering, surgeries, vaccinations, and dental work.
Three of the cats have Cerebellar Hypoplasia, or CH, with one of the cases being severe.
Once those are completed, the shelter will work on finding forever homes for these furry friends.
Over the next few weeks, volunteers will be working with the town of Waterford to get a dumpster over to help the elderly couple’s residence to help clean up their property.
A volunteer work party is also being organized to help with the clean up efforts.
