Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigating the death of man who was in custody

We are staying on top on active investigation involving the death of a man who was in custody by Cathedral City Police.

On August 28, 2017, the Cathedral City Police Department requested the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department to conduct an independent investigation regarding a pre-booking death of a male subject who was arrested on August 26, 2017.

According to a CCPD press release, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 69000 blk of Pomegranate Ln. after a resident reported that a man, possibly under the influence of narcotics and/or alcohol, and was breaking items inside of a home.

Officers detained a 55-year-old man, after he was handcuffed, he experienced a medical emergency. Officers performed CPR on the man until members of Cathedral City Fire Department arrived and transported him to the hospital. The man was pronounced dead on Monday August 28.

Cathedral City Police Department requested that Riverside Sheriff’s Department conduct an impartial investigation into the cause of death, according to the release.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld until family is notified.

This is an active investigation and no further information is available at this time.
