Officer-involved shooting in La Quinta

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting at the La Quinta Cove.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, officers with the La Quinta Police Department were called to the 73300 block of Avenida Montezuma for a burglary. While investigating the residential burglary, the officers were assaulted and the officer-involved shooting occurred.

Neither officer involved were injured. The suspect was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The Sheriffs Department confirmed the suspect was later released from the hospital and is in Sheriff’s custody.

The Sheriffs Department released a statement saying, “officers were assaulted by an adult male and an officer-involved shooting occurred.” The statement added, “there are no outstanding suspects or threats to public safety.”

Central Homicide Unit had assumed the investigation. Forensic, Homicide, multiple other investigators were on scene canvassing the area for evidence late Wednesday night.

The suspect’s name had not yet been released.
