Warmer than usual for the week ahead

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – It's been a warmer than usual weekend across Southern California! We're set to stay toasty as we look ahead to the work week.

This week, we'll be seeing much of the same pattern: high pressure has set up shop near the Four Corners region, which is helping elevate temperatures across the West. That's given coastal locations and much of the Pacific Northwest an opportunity for record highs.

For us, it's nothing *too* out of the ordinary. Our highs hover between 5-10°F above normal. But for coastal regions and areas west of the mountains, temperatures are running closer to 15°F above normal, which has triggered an Extreme Heat Warning until at least Thursday night for locally extreme HeatRisk.

We have some competition when it comes to the heat... some spots to our west could surpass what we're forecasting for Palm Springs on Monday!

Highs just past the century mark are expected in Palm Springs on Monday, representing about 6°F above seasonal.

A very gradual warming trend will take us near 105°F by mid- to late-week as high pressure remains anchored in the west. That system is showing signs of weakening by next weekend, offering us the chance to cool off a bit.
