Desert Hot Springs cooling center undergoes repairs after plumbing issues
Earlier this week a viewer alerted News Channel 3 about a problem with the bathrooms at the Word of Life Fellowship Center on Estrella Avenue.
On Thursday, the County offered the following response, courtesy of Public Policy Advisor Greg Rodriguez of Supervisor Manuel Perez’s office:
” Desert Hot Springs Code Enforcement visited the facility after a plumbing complaint on Monday and did find that a church restroom was broken. During this visit they discovered that the portable shower was draining into the ground and requested that the portable shower drain be piped into the churches plumbing.
The next day Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, who manage the facilities hired a plumber to fix the issues including tapping a shower drain hose into the church’s existing plumbing. The restroom was snaked and fixed.
They also addressed some problems with the portable bathrooms as well, and they will be now monitored by an outside company twice a week, and the locks that were broken are now fixed. They will continue to closely monitor the issues and work to repair any issues as they arise. ”
The county announced that it would be opening three overnight cooling centers in the valley in late June. The other two centers are located in Palm Springs and Cathedral City.
