Alleged DUI driver dies after being ejected in SR-62 crash
A woman died at the scene of a three-vehicle crash in Morongo Valley on Thursday after being ejected from her truck. According to CHP, she was not wearing a seatbelt and was driving under the influence.
At 12:57 p.m., a multiple-vehicle traffic collision was reported on State Route 62 near the intersection of Senilis Avenue. A 43-year-old Morongo Valley man was approaching the intersection at Senilis Avenue, slowing down to navigate a right turn in a teal 1994 Ford Ranger. The rear of the Ford Ranger was then struck by a gray 2005 Ford Ranger driven by a 57-year-old Yucca Valley woman driving at a high rate of speed.
The impact forced the teal Ranger to the northwest onto Senilis Avenue, where it struck a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a 35-year-old Morongo Valley man.
The initial impact then caused the gray Ranger to overturn several times, ejecting the 57-year-old Yucca Valley woman. She was arrested on scene on suspicion of driving under the influence and then was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where she died from her injuries at 5:05 p.m.
The driver of Gray Ranger was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the Dodge Ram Pickup truck did not sustain injuries in the crash.
