Ramon Road Revamp Planned For Cathedral City
Ramon Road, notorious for being one of the bumpiest rides in the Coachella Valley, will undergo a major facelift thanks to some major funding.
The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians will give Cathedral City $2.3 million as part of its Indian Reservation Roads program grant. The funds will help revitalize the stretch of Ramon Road between Landau Blvd. and Date Palm Drive.
“This project has been years in the making, and the Tribe is happy to be able to help the City with funding for this much-needed road improvement,” said Tribal Vice Chairman, Jeff L. Grubbe.
The Tribe’s 31,500 acre reservation includes sections of Cathedral City, making the Ramon road project eligible for the grant funds.
With this funding secured, final design for this section of Ramon Road should be approved before the end of the year with advertisements for construction bids going out in the summer of 2011. Construction would begin shortly thereafter.
“This IRR grant means we can move forward on renovating and resurfacing Ramon Road, which is one of our City’s top priorities,” said Cathedral City Mayor Kathleen J. DeRosa.
