Driver Killed In Crash Near Whitewater

An early morning crash has left one person dead.

The crash happened at 6:25 Wednesday morning.

CHP officers said that the driver of a Blue Toyota Tercel was in the slow lane heading eastbound on Interstate 10 near the Whitewater rest area.

According to witnesses, the driver started to sway on to the shoulder, then hit a curb and flipped his car.

The driver was ejected from the car. Investigators say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Officers did find an opened 24 oz. bottle of beer in the car, though they have yet to say if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The victim’s name has yet to be released.
