Close Election In Indian Wells Could Lead To Re-Count

Newschannel 3 confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Indian Wells City Council candidate Ted Mertins will ask for a recount if he continues to lose the race for the second city council seat.

Monday’s count left Mertens only 7 votes behind incumbent Patrick Mullany.

“The people of Indian Wells deserve to have the candidate they choose representing them,” Mertens told News Channel 3. “Riverside County has been plagued by several problems, including dozens of Indian Wells ballots being locked up in an unused ballot bag for days.”

He said if he wins, of course, he won’t request a recount.

The Riverside County Registrar of Voters Office has until November 30th to certify the election. They expect to have the remaining ballots counted by Wednesday.
