Mother, son stabbed in their Palm Springs home
Three people were stabbed during what appears to be a case of domestic violence near Demuth Park in Palm Springs on Wednesday.
Police spokesman Mike Kovaleff said the incident happened around 7:45 a.m. when a 42-year-old man allegedly went to his mother’s home on the 900 block of Calle Paul and started attacking her with a knife.
He said the suspect — whose name is not being released — then turned his attention from his 73-year-old mother to his brother, 39, who tried to intervene.
“The suspect then exited the residence and began stabbing and cutting himself several times while both victims attempted to report the incident,” Kovaleff said.
The victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening wounds. The woman had a facial laceration and the suspect’s brother was stabbed in the arm, Kovaleff said.
The suspect was transported to a hospital in critical condition, the sergeant said.
“The Palm Springs Police Department is investigating what led the suspect to attack both of his family members for both criminal prosecution and for mental health evaluation,” Kovaleff said.
The names of the suspect and the victims were being withheld “due to the nature of the investigation,” he said.
