‘Feartastic’ Halloween events take over Palm Springs

From zombies to drag queens to a rocking hotel party, there’s no shortage of Halloween events in Palm Springs.

“We can’t go trick or treating anymore because we’re too old, so we can have a party at the Hard Rock,” said Kim Waltrip, co-owner of Troupe Productions.

The hotel plays host to BB’s Monster Rock Halloween Bash. It kicks off the inaugural “Feartastic” film festival, which will debut five films at Camelot theaters beginning Friday.

“We love horror movies and we thought Palm Springs doesn’t have a horror film festival, let’s have one,” Waltrip said.

And it looked like a zombie movie in Palm Springs when the third annual Zombie Walk took over Palm Canyon Drive.

“It started as a little walk and it’s gone viral,” said Chad Gardner, event organizer.

The event has been so successful organizers wanted to give back this year by benefiting the local charity Safe House of the Desert.

And nearby the Arenas Halloween Costume Contest celebrated 10 years of colorful shows, giving away almost a thousand dollars in prize money.

“We are in a community of artists, imagination and here they really strut their stuff in costume,” said Melinda Tremagnilo, the event’s producer.
