‘Culture Club’ cancels sold-out show due to health concerns
Health concerns for lead singer Boy George has Culture Club postponing its November tour, which includes a sold out show at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa. The show was supposed to be the band’s first performance of its North American tour.
The announcement was made just two days before the band was slated to perform at Agua Caliente on November 15. The tour is being postponed because Boy George needs to recover from vocal cord polyps, according to resort officials.
The group released the following statement: it is with great regret that the members of Culture Club have announced the cancellation of the tour in North America scheduled for November 2014. It became necessary to do so this week after a top throat specialist discovered a polyp in George’s throat. The specialist advised him that he cannot sing under his condition as it may necessitate an operation. George and the band are devastated by this news and it so it is much regret that the tour is cancelled until further notice.
Band members said they’re hoping to reschedule the concerts for next year, and hopefully George’s problems will be resolved. They also wanted to thank their fans for their loyalty.
The resort has contacted ticket holders. According to its website, there are no refunds or exchanges for tickets purchased, but if an event is cancelled or rescheduled, tickets may be refunded at the original point of purchase.
Officials said the performance at Agua Caliente was highly anticipated by local fans because each of the original Culture Club members were scheduled to perform together — Mikey Craig (bass guitar), Roy Hay (guitar and keyboards), Jon Moss (drums and percussion) and flamboyant front-man Boy George (lead vocals).
