Three Coachella Valley toddlers nearly drown in one day

Three toddlers nearly drowned in Riverside County Saturday, one in an apartment complex pool in La Quinta, another in a pond at a Rancho Mirage resort, and a third in a pool at a home in Indio, authorities said.

Firefighters responded about 7:10 p.m. Saturday to a report that a toddler had fell into a pond at the Westin Mission Hills Resort, 71333 Dinah Shore Drive in Rancho Mirage, said April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department.

The child suffered only minor injuries and was breathing and crying while being taken to a hospital, Newman said.

Earlier, a toddler was hospitalized after nearly drowning at an apartment complex pool in La Quinta, Newman said.

The boy was conscious and breathing when arrived at 4:07 p.m. at the Coral Mountain Apartments, 79625 Vista Coralina Lane, she said. The boy was being treated for moderate injuries.

In Indio, a one-year-old child was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being found in a pool on the 80000 block of Plum Road around 9:15 Saturday night. The child is still being treated at the hospital.
