Cathedral City girl ready to compete on national stage

An eighth-grader from James Workman Middle School in Cathedral City advanced today to the semifinals of the 88th Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland.

Jenna-May Ingal correctly spelled “barabara” — a sod or turf hut in northern Siberia or Alaska — and “fruticetum” — a collection of ornamental shrubs — to advance to Thursday’s semifinal round at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center.

She’ll be one of 49 students competing in the semifinal round which will be televised.

Here’s the schedule:

Semifinals: Thursday, 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. PDT on ESPN2.

Championship Finals: Thursday, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. PDT on ESPN.
