Motion Picture Hall of Fame to be built in Palm Springs

The Board of Directors of the Motion Picture Hall of Fame Holding Company has announced that Palm Springs will soon be the home of the Motion Picture Hall of Fame.

Officials said the company secured a long term lease and the Motion Picture Hall of Fame will be built at 296 South Palm Canyon Drive. The opening is slated for November 2016.

According to the release, the ‘Motion Picture Hall of Fame Honors’, a two-hour televised induction ceremony, is held each year to determine new inductees into the Motion Picture Hall of Fame.

All inductees will be selected and voted on by the highest authorities in the industry, the fans and movie goers themselves, said Director Paula Monahan. Each year two films, two actors, two actresses, one producer , one director and one film score will be inducted.

The company has selected a blue ribbon panel of show-business veterans to serve on the advisory board and nomination committee, according to the release.

“In over 100 years of film making there has never been a Motion Picture Hall of Fame”, said Michael Brausen, vice president of international marketing and executive producer of the “Motion Picture Hall of Fame Honors” television show. “Our goal is to both honor and preserve the ” all time ” greatest accomplishments in the history of motion pictures.”

The Board of Supervisors said Los Angeles-based Mammoth Sound and Vision, Inc. will build the the Motion Picture Hall of Fame and design all of the exhibits. Co Founder and Managing Director George Johnsen has designed many exhibits around the world, including a number of highly celebrated theme park attractions (King Kong and the Earthquake for Universal Studios, Hollywood; Ghostbusters, The Hannah Barbera Jetsons/Flinstones Adventure, Alfred Hitchcock, etc.)

Daily operations at the Motion Picture Hall of Fame will be handled by Bob Masterson and his company. Officials said Masterson was the longtime head man at Ripley’s Entertainment. He’s also a member of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Hall of Fame. As the 88th inductee into the IAAPA Hall of Fame, Masterson joined the likes of Walt Disney and P.T. Barnum.

Officials said Masterson projects that the Motion Picture Hall of Fame will become one of Southern California’s premier attractions.

“We are currently offering the naming rights on the building”, stated Bob Alexander, the company’s President.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver more of the specifics as construction on the building gets underway.
