Family looks for missing pigs in Thousand Palms
We often hear of dogs and cats going missing after getting out of the house, but one Coachella Valley family is begging for your help to find their pot-bellied pigs.
Samantha Cortese spoke to the woman who says she hopes her precious pigs come home safe.
Adriana Nitao and her family are mourning their missing pets after the two piglets managed to get through a side gate of their Thousand Palms home on 30th Street Saturday morning.
“People only think that pigs are for food, but they’re not our food. They’re friends. They’re our family members,” Nitao said.
Porkchop is 5-months-old and Ximena is 4-months-old. Adriana said her husband saw the pigs on the front lawn but some dogs scared them away.
She said, “They’re really fast! They run really fast. By the time my husband asked for help to go out and look for them, they were gone.”
The family lives close to an empty lot and Adriana fears that being so close to the empty desert will leave her pets without food and water. She hopes it’s not the end of the road for her two precious pigs.
Our crew went to nearby animal shelters but there was no sign of the swine.
Nitao said she posted photos and pleas on social media, only to be met with rude responses.
“People don’t understand what they’re going through…they’re pigs but they have feelings, too,” she said. “We have feelings, too. For them to make those comments — please, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything,” Nitao added.
If you see the pigs, one with black and the other is black with white spots, call 760-406-3586. Until they find closures, the Nitaos are holding on to hope.
“Please, if somebody find them give them to us. We are willing to give money or a reward, whatever it takes,” Nitao said.
