La Quinta waiting for more information from “Coachella Valley Wind-Up”
Tickets are now on sale for the so-called “Coachella Valley Wind-Up.”
$95 gets you into what’s billed as a 140,000 square-foot indoor party set to run on the Thursday before Coachella and Stagecoach next April at the “Saxony Convention Center.”
You might recognize the building as the former Sam’s Club in La Quinta on Highway 111. In August the city approved a permit for Palm Desert real estate firm Saxony Group to operate conventions there.
“The building’s been vacant for a long time, so a convention center is probably a use that could work well,” said Gabriel Perez, Planning Manager for the City of La Quinta.
Saxony recently filed an application to hold the event, but the city says it was incomplete.
“They just need to show us their site plans, the traffic control plan, trash control, noise control,” Perez said.
But as for who the “world-renowned DJs” headlining the massive party are? No one seems to know.
Saxony CEO Martin Dolemo said he wouldn’t talk to us about the Wind-Up at this time. The city says it’s in the dark on those details too.
“We’ve just seen the same information that everyone else has seen, that it will be an event with EDM and so we don’t know who the performers are.”
Some of our Facebook followers said having no official lineup discourages them from buying a ticket.
The city says Saxony expects 10,500 attendees at the event.
“It’s a large amount of people so we’re working with the applicant to see if he can accommodate that,” Perez said.
The city also hopes the convention center will create local jobs, a vision Saxony has promoted through many of its recent projects.
In 2013, the company planned to open a fashion outlet mall in Rancho Mirage, promising to create 4,000 jobs. That mall was never built and Saxony Group still owns the land.
“We don’t make any judgments based on the applicant’s past history in other cities. We deal with the application that’s before us in a fair equitable manner,” Perez said.
UPDATE: 10/14/15 10:16 AM: As of Wednesday morning a headlining act was posted to the CoachellaValleyWindUp page. The website shows Snoop Dogg & Friends will be performing on April 14 and 28.
