Parade of Planes takes off in Palm Springs
Flying magazine’s three-day Aviation Expo opens Thursday at the Palm Springs Convention Center, marking the event’s second year in the Coachella Valley.
At 10:00 a.m. Thursday, the welcome parade included a variety of aircraft that taxied from Palm Springs International Airport to the Palm Springs Convention Center.
The return parade is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
More than 40 airplanes will travel down East Alejo Road and North Avenida Caballeros.
Aviation fans are encouraged to watch from the sidewalks.
Street closures:
Thursday, October 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Alejo Road from the airport to Avenida Caballeros, Avenida Caballeros from Alejo Road south to Margarita’s , Amado Road from Avenida Caballeros to Calle Alvarado, and Calle Alvarado from Amado south past the convention center.
Saturday, October 17 from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Alejo Road from the airport to Avenida Caballeros, Avenida Caballeros from Alejo Road south to Margarita’s, Amado Road from Avenida Caballeros to Calle Alvarado, and Calle Alvarado from Amado south past the convention center.
During the Aviation Expo, the planes will be parked on the streets around the Palm Springs Convention Center including Avenida Caballeros, Amado Road, and Alvarado Road. Portions of these streets will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Access to Margarita’s Restaurant and the Palm Springs Unified School District will be available by turning north onto Avenida Caballeros from Tahquitz Canyon Way. Additionally, Alvarado access will be available for Plaza Villa residents from Andreas, according to the city’s release.
