Police arrest suspect in Coachella Murder

Update: The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department says they have arrested a suspect in the murder of a 31-year old Coachella woman back in March.

On Tuesday, at approximately 5:30 pm, Investigators with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Central Homicide Unit arrested Coachella resident Carlos Antonio Mendoza, age 38, for the murder of Cecilia Silva.

Mendoza was located in the city of Chino and arrested without incident. Mendoza was transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center and booked for murder. His bail has been set at $1,000,000.

Authorities have released the name of a Coachella woman whose death is being investigated as a homicide.

Cecilia Silva, 31, was found dead at 6:35 a.m. on March 16. Sheriff’s deputies were called that morning to the 52700 block of Calle Empalme to investigate the report of a death at the location, said Deputy Armando Munoz.

Silva’s death was determined to be a homicide, but few other details have been released.

Deputies asked anyone with information regarding the death to call Investigator Freeman of the sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit at (760) 393-3530.
