Woman identified after deadly Desert Center rollover

Authorities released the name of an 18-year-old Northern California woman who was fatally injured in a rollover crash on Interstate 10 on Friday.

Jayna Hatfield of Castroville was the only one inside the car, which crashed at 2:05 p.m. on westbound Interstate 10 near Eagle Mountain Road. Hatfield’s car overturned and went through a fence off the roadway, ejecting her from the vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol briefly closed all westbound lanes of the freeway to land an airship, which flew Hatfield to Desert Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 5:53 p.m., according to the county coroner.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
