More break-ins reported in Palm Springs area
News Channel 3 continues to report break-ins throughout the Palm Springs area.
The owner of AIM Mail Center off East Palm Canyon Drive also experienced a theft similar to the ones we recently reported.
You can see surveillance video of the other break ins throughout the area here.
When AIM Mail Center owner Matt Sater, saw the series of break-ins that happened throughout the Palm Springs area, he reached out to News Channel 3 to share his story.
"You know, being a first time business owner, for me it was like 'Wow, this does happen, right?' Then secondarily, you start to feel a little bit like, 'Okay, what else do we need to do to secure the building?'"
The break-in at the AIM Mail Center happened late June and was followed by a slew of break-ins confirmed by the Palm Springs Police Department.
Lt. Gustavo Araiza says, "We do suspect that these (crimes) might be related."
Break-ins were reported at Santorini off East Vista Chino, Manhattan in the Desert, along with the Sandwich Spot and the Gastro Pub 1501 off North Palm Drive.
Many of them happening in a similar fashion like the one Sater describes, "Well, when I got to the store at about eight o'clock that morning, we noticed a window had been pulled in, set aside, and then we went back and watched the video. He'd actually got in, skateboarded around the counter and didn't set off any alarms."
Stater also tells me the suspect broke in around 6 a.m., setting off an alarm. He then came back at 7:30 a.m. to take a safe out the back door.
Police later found the safe abandoned near La Verne Way.
"They brought it back and they had smashed the bottom in on it, and took everything that was in there," says Sater.
Lt. Araiza says the investigation is ongoing as the department continues to scour through security video.
"If there's other surveillance footage, if there's other commercial business owners that have footage of the potential suspect walking by, something like that may assist us," says Lt. Araiza.
Sater says the recent break in is encouraging him to add more security measures throughout the store.
Many of the break-ins have occurred in the early morning while businesses are closed and employees are out of the building.
The Palm Springs Police Department is asking that people report any suspicious activity by calling 911 or their non-emergency line 760-327-1441.
