Part 6: Behind McGowan’s Last Case

The FBI’s new investigation of the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office may have stemmed from the last case a D.A.’s investigator was working on up until his death.

Former investigator Luis Bolaños says that his former partner David McGowan was investigating four Desert Hot Springs officers accused of filing a false report.

NewsChannel 3 has obtained court testimony that may explain what happened.

DHS Police Chief Roy Hill testified that he received extreme pressure from then City Manager Jerry Hanson that he had to make a decision to fire the officers or bring them back to work.

City Manager Jerry Hanson and the city council faced an enormous budget shortfall and paying four officers on administrative leave was not helping any.

The Steimer family alleges that Jerry Hanson pressured Chief Roy Hill to fire the officers.

D.A. Chief Clay Hodson is being accused in new court papers of intimidating David McGowan to make him say the officers were guilty despite what McGowan truly believed.

McGwan committed murder-suicide days before he was to testify in the Desert Hot Springs case.

Bolaños says he was targeted by the District Attorney’s Office because he knew too much about his partner’s problems at work.

Now that Chief Investigator hodson is gone, new allegations are coming to light.
