Indio Chooses Furloughs As Cost-Saving Move

In a 5-0 vote Tuesday, the Indio City Council approved a measure to furlough city workers on Fridays as a way to save the city money.

Beginning July 1st City Hall, The Indio Teen Center, The Indio Senior Center and the Corporate Yard will be closed on Fridays. All employees will work 4 hours less each week which results in a 10 percent cut across the board.

The city says they will save $1.7 million.

Indio Police officers will work 4 hours less during their shifts.

Indio city leaders say City Hall opens at 7:30am and stays open till 5:30pm, one of the longest work days in the valley. They will keep those hours only open Monday through Thursday.
