Shoppers Find Back-To-School Bargains
Stores are in retail heaven. As students head back to the books, parents seek back-to-school bargains. Big stores and local stores alike are pulling out all the advertisement stops. As college student Jaime Nippert points out, “anything that says sale obviously catches your eye, like it’s got the bright colors on it. I think theirs [Target’s] are yellow.”
Back-to-school shopping is the second-biggest spending event of the year, next to winter holidays. The National Retail Federation forecasts sales to be flat this season, with total spending for grades K-12 around $22.8 billion. After doing a back-to-school survey, the NRF anticipates that families of students K-12 will spend about $600 on school supplies, clothes, and electronics this year. The survey shows that families will spend about $3 less than they did last year. Back-to-school shopper Chris Tenoria agrees, saying, “I think that’s definitely true. We’re spending a lot less than last year and trying to get by with less.”
Shoppers say they find their best deals at Walmart, Target, and 99 Cent stores.
