Donate blood and earn free tickets to Humana Challenge golf tournament in La Quinta

Local blood donors can get a pair of free tickets to the Humana Challenge golf tournament.

People who donate at blood drives Tuesday and Thursday will get the tickets, an $80 total value, while supplies last. Tickets are good any day Jan. 13-19.

The blood drives are scheduled for Tuesday from 8 a.m. to noon at Thousand Trails RV Camp, 77500 Varner Road, Palm Desert; and Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon at Outdoor Resort, 80394 Avenue 48, Indio.

Desert Blood Services, at 79-215 Corporate Centre Drive in La Quinta, is open noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday through Saturday for whole-blood donations, and 11:40 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 6:40 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday for aphaeresis donations.

“We’re pleased to be able to thank our great donors with these tickets, and we appreciate tournament organizers for generously supporting the mission of voluntary blood donation,” said Nicu Cocione, director of Desert Blood Services.

All donors get free cholesterol screenings and physicals.

Healthy people at least 15 years old can give blood, but those 15 and 16 years old must provide written parental consent. Photo identification is required, and all donors should eat before arriving and be well-hydrated, according to Desert Blood Services.

Desert Blood Services provides blood products for Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree, Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe and Bush Naval Hospital in Twentynine Palms.
