Did you know there is an Orchid Festival in the High Desert?
Looking for something to do the first weekend of October? Get out and enjoy the cooler weather at the Annual Orchid Festival in Landers.
Tall or miniature — choose from more than 5,000 different kinds of orchids. Want white or pink with black outline — choose from thousands of colors. There’s no smell-evision so you’re going to have to take my word for it — but there’s even an orchid, the Sherry Baby, that smells like chocolate!
At the 19th Annual Morongo Basin Orchid Festival that the Yucca Valley Sunset Rotary organizes, there’s no shortage of beauty and a visit to the festival is a way to give back to the community. “We generally help 15-17 non profits.” says Tami Montgomery of the Yucca Valley Sunset Rotary, “last year we raised $15,000 dollars that was dispersed to non profits.”
The weekend event is kid friendly, there are free classes for kids on how to take care of orchids, adults can too, for a small fee. There are also orchid tours every 15 minutes.
The festival is open Saturday October 4th from 10am-5pm, and Sunday October 5th from 10am-3pm. For more details on the event go to gublerorchids.com
