Nude photos of CVHS students posted to Twitter
Coachella Valley High School students sounding off about the Twitter handle @CVHSProbs_, which up until now was an online portal for them to talk about their problems with school.
“Teachers do this or do that, different struggles from school,” said Diego Zamora. “It’s been normal up until last night.”
Tuesday night students say someone in charge of that account began posting inappropriate photos using the hashtag “leaked nudes,” which other students then retweeted.
“It spread like wildfire throughout the school,” Zamora. “Sheer disgust over what’s going on.”
The sheriff’s department confirms it’s launched an investigation into the nude photos posted to Twitter and that several CVHS students are involved.
“It is my understanding that, yes, the nude photos involve students,” said Lt. Misty Reynolds of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Coachella Valley Unified School District released this statement:
“This activity took place after school and was not related to any school activity or function. Nevertheless, the district launched an investigation to determine the origin of the inappropriate material. The district has taken the appropriate disciplinary action and has implemented additional procedures to minimize the possibility of this occurring in the future.”
The account @CVHSProbs_ has since been deactivated.
Authorities say this should be a warning to parents to remain vigilant about what their kids are posting on social media.
“Parents and students need to know what they put on social media is public information that can be accessed by anyone,” Lt. Reynolds said. “So I would caution parents to be aware of what their students are doing.”
