Suspect identified in officer-involved shooting in La Quinta Cove
We are learning more about an early morning robbery in La Quinta Cove, one suspect is under arrest and in the hospital, shot by a police officer.
It happened just before 3:30 Saturday morning, La Quinta police responded to a robbery at a home in the area of Avenida Herrera and Calle Sonora.
Authorities say the victim told officers three armed men robbed him outside of his home. Officers chased one suspect armed with a rifle, then opened fire when police say he reached for a knife.
He was identified as 18-year-old Adrian Vivas of La Quinta. Vivas was taken to a hospital with a non-life threatening gun shot wound.
He will be charged with robbery, attempted burglary, and conspiracy.
One neighbor tells us he’s noticed a lot more crime in that area lately.
“I feel safe knowing that I have pitbulls and there’s big gates around here, we have cameras and stuff so people get deterred from my property and not as much the neighbors down the street. I heard there was a party up the street with some kids so you know they came from that house and apparently went and broke into a house,” said Robert Cleek.
No word on Vivas’ condition.
The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave per department policy.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an internal investigation, as is procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
