Indio Pizza Hut given all clear after suspicious package scare

An Indio Pizza Hut is back open after being evacuated by a suspicious bag that contained a 40 mm shell casing.

Dan Marshall, from the Indio Police Department says that around 3:20 Monday afternoon, a passerby approached two officers and said there was a green military pouch left unattended near the Pizza Hut at Avenue 46 and Monroe Street.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Hazardous Response Team was called in, and after using a bomb robot, they determined the shell casing was not live and no threat to the business or area.

No word on who left the bag near the business but police are continuing to investigate. If you know anything about this incident your asked to call Police or Crimestoppers at (760) 341-STOP.
