Driver rescued from car crash by Jaws of Life

2 people are taken to the hospital after sustaining injuries from a Friday afternoon crash in Indio

According to Cal Fire just before 3:00 p.m. two cars collided at the intersection of Varner Road and Jefferson Street. The driver of a black Honda for unknown reasons veered into Westbound lanes, and crashed head on with a silver BMW and flipped off the roadway into a field in front of the Indio C.H.P Office.

The driver of the Honda had to be cut from the car. Cal Fire used the Jaws of Life to rescue him. He was transported to Desert Regional with major injuries. The driver of the BMW only sustained minor injuries and was taken to JFK Memorial Hospital.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Westbound lanes of Varner Road between Jefferson Street and Adams remain closed at this hour for the investigation.
