California Governor Jerry Brown pardons 83 people for past crimes

An Oakland, California, man pardoned for crimes he committed nearly three decades ago calls the Easter Sunday announcement a new beginning in his life.

Gov. Jerry Brown on Sunday announced that he granted pardons to 83 people. One of them is 45-year-old Eddy Zheng, who spent 19 years in state prison for a robbery and kidnapping he committed at age 16.

Zheng says he changed his life and works at the Community Youth Center of San Francisco.

Zheng says he hopes others will hear his story and see they can change their lives.

Most of the others pardoned were convicted for robbery and drug crimes.

Each has been out of state prison for at least 10 years and leads a productive life with no new criminal convictions.
