La Quinta Block Party kicks off season
Hundreds of people took over the streets Old Town La Quinta Saturday night for it’s second Block Party.
The free event ran from 7-11 p.m. and showcased several local bands on the event lawn, a wine and beer garden, and restaurants set up booths in the street.
Many Old Town restaurants also had live music and stayed open late.
The city hosted a block party for Memorial Day, it was so popular it’s now going to host four a year.
“It’s great!” said Old Town La Quinta owner Wells Marvin. “A lot of people stay in town. A lot of people are back, the kids are back in school, they are back at work and this is a way to thank them for staying around and sticking it out here in the summer in La Quinta.”
“I think it’s fabulous, a great way to bring the community together and it’s great seeing all of these people out here enjoying a wonderful warm night,” said Ellie Marks.
The Block Party is also going to help cancer patients here in the Valley. The vendors are donating a portion of the night’s proceeds to the Desert Cancer Foundation.
