Valley students working this Labor Day

While some Coachella Valley students celebrated their no school Labor Day holiday at Wet ‘n’ Wild Palm Springs, others were cashing in on a busy work day.

“I know some people don’t like working Labor Day, but I work at such a fun place I don’t mind it,” said 19-year-old employee Kellie Hamrick.

With more than 100 employees, many teenagers, on the job Monday, the holiday brought in a lot of business before the end of the summer water park season.

“A lot of our staff here, especially this time of year are students, they do have the day off from school, but they come in here. We really do appreciate they’re here helping other families have a good time,” said General Manager David Andrews.

With the job, comes life lessons and responsibilities.

“It teaches you a lot. This was my first job when I turned 16. I learned a lot. It’s a good stepping stone to get into the real world,” said Hamrick.

“I think the commitment is something I’d love to instill. The ones that continue to come to work and work especially when they’re off from school, show commitment and that drives success throughout the rest of their lives,” said Andrews.
