Man arrested for allegedly stabbing 2 outside Palm Springs bar
The Palm Springs Police Department has arrested a Cathedral City man suspected of stabbing two people outside of a bar in downtown Palm Springs in early September.
Bryan Davalos Munoz, 24, was taken into custody early Thursday morning after PSPD detectives and the Desert Regional SWAT team served a search warrant at a home in Cathedral City, Lt. Mike Kovaleff said in a release.
The stabbing occurred in an alley behind the Village Pub, located at 266 South Palm Canyon Drive, at 1:42 a.m. on September 7. Officers were called to the scene when several people began fighting in the bar. Officers said the fight continued in the alley after the subjects were escorted out of the business.
Kovaleff said one patron and one employee sustained lacerations from an unknown sharp object. They were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment but were released the same day.
“We had two individuals that were arguing a little bit and and we saw the situation was a little tense so we escorted them outside. Unfortunately once we got them outside, one of the individuals decided to attack the other one,” said David Mariner, general manager of the Village Pub. He was there when the fight started.
“It’s not necessarily a dangerous area, any area where you are going to have an increased level of folks that are intoxicated you are going to have to be more cautious with what they are doing, and unfortunately some of those individuals don’t play well with others and end up getting into fights,” said Kovaleff.
“I have gone through great links to make sure that we have enough security in the area, we have security posts and that’s why were were able to deal with this situation so effectively, and that’s why more people weren’t hurt, because we did our job,” said Mariner.
Officers said four Hispanic men reportedly ran from the scene. The search for the suspect went on for almost exactly one month before Thursday morning’s arrest.
Bryan Davalos Munoz is facing two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of possession of ammunition by a prohibited person; both felony allegations.
