Woman stung more than 100 times

Two women are recovering after being attacked by a swarm of bees on a Southern California golf course. It happened Tuesday as the women were playing on a course in Laguna Woods, near Misson Viejo.

Both women are in their 70s. Paramedics say one was stung over one hundred times and the other about 15 times. Both were rushed to the hospital. The woman stung over 100 times is still being treated.

Firefighters say the bees swarmed when a groundskeeper apparently disturbed a hive with his lawn mower. Beekeepers say the fact that it was Africanized honey bees made the situation much worse than if the hive had been the tamer, European honey bees.

Beekeepers say the number of Africanized honey bee colonies has increased across the U.S. in recent years. Both women are expected to be o.k.
